A small stone statue from the Hanbury Collection (Ventimiglia) presents many iconographic questions that archaeometry can help to resolve. The results we obteined from petrographic analysis yield same information on the origin of the material and the craftsmanship. The iconography indeed does not offer any comparison in Albintimilium or the neighboring regions (Gallia Narbonensis and Cisalpina); on the contrary, some comparanda ave been noted from beyond the Alps, along Germanic limes.

Abstract

A small stone statue from the Hanbury Collection (Ventimiglia) presents many iconographic questions that archaeometry can help to resolve.
