Title: Senior tourism: the future mass tourism? Abstract: The contribution is inspired by a statement contained in the Charter of Recife on senior tourism (1996) and transforms it into a question that is put in connection with the forecast for 2050 United Nations on increasing percentage of older people in different continents. Further evidence on the possibility of this increasing tourism sector are derived from a survey of the main researches conducted in Europe, USA, Australia, Israel and Taiwan since the mid-80s of the Twentieth Century. Based on these studies are focused: the segments of senior tourism, the factors and reasons for choice, preferences and concerns of tourists. One last consideration is related to the interest of the tourist market and geographical research on senior tourism in Italy.
