Alcide De Gasperi is widely recognized as “Father of the united Europe”. He is credited with having assumed the continental leadership of the process of the political unification of Europe. HE felt the historical reasons of the European unity: he understood that the continental dimension would include, not cancelled, the States, in a full coexistence among peoples of language, traditions, different religions. Above all, in European unity he saw the peace and the overcoming of the disagreements that had caused the great wars of the past. Fifty years after the death of the great statesman, the book covers the fundamental stages of De Gasperi’s Europeanism – from the education in the Habsburg Trentino and from the experience in multinational parliament in Vienna to the persevering work, after World War II, in favour of the inclusion of Italy in the new European and international organizations -– documenting the approach to federalism in conjunction with the birth of the first European Communities.

Abstract
Alcide De Gasperi is widely recognized as “Father of the united Europe”. He is credited with having assumed the continental leadership of the process of the political unification of Europe. HE felt the historical reasons of the European unity: he understood that the continental dimension would include, not cancelled, the States, in a full coexistence among peoples of language, traditions, different religions. Above all, in European unity he saw the peace and the overcoming of the disagreements that had caused the great wars of the past. Fifty years after the death of the great statesman, the book covers the fundamental stages of De Gasperi’s Europeanism – from the education in the Habsburg Trentino and from the experience in multinational parliament in Vienna to the persevering work, after World War II, in favour of the inclusion of Italy in the new European and international organizations -– documenting the approach to federalism in conjunction with the birth of the first European Communities.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
