Abstract
Usury is a consequence of the introduction of money as a medium to be exchanged for goods and services. Between 18th and 19th century the greater availability of money on the society and the circulation of money in small amounts, are some of the causes of the great social changes in Europe. Since money acquired a value in itself it has become the principal object of accumulation: lending money is then a process subject to risks, which are calculated, i.e. the interest, that is for the lender a form of work in itself. For a deeper focus, contemporary and Middle Ages exempla on usury are put in comparison: on the one hand they show the different mechanisms pushing the modern man to usurers and the laws towards this phenomenon, on the other hand they describe the attitude towards Middle Ages usurers whose punishment and redemption were a matter of discussion in Christian religion.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
