The publication analyses the translator's notes of A. Martinez del Romero (1810-1875), in his translation of three works by Camille Flammarion, published in Spain in 1873. The study corpus, consisting of 122 notes, is very varied and had to be classified by subject before proceeding to the textual analysis. The lexicographer rather than the translator plays a leading role, as well as the 19th century educated man who used paratextual elements to display all his knowledge. We can also observe the use of notes to point out deficiencies in the lexicographical work of the Real Academia Española, a dialogue which seemed to be one-way and polemical.
