This 16th edition of the Aussiger Beiträge is devoted to 12 contributions on the representation and interpretation of travel in contemporary German-language literature since 1945. Travel is understood here in a broad sense, from actual journeys to fictional descriptions of journeys. Also considered are journeys into the supposedly known as well as journeys by authors and their effects on the creation of texts. The panorama ranges from the type of representation, which can move between fictionality and factuality, to a critical examination of travel as a theme and motif. But it is also repeatedly about the theme of borders and their transgression and the confrontation with the Other. Also of interest proved to be the question of how the travellers reflect on themselves - on the road and in the confrontation with the Other.
