1963-1973, Ten Years That Did Not Change the World (Or Did They?)

Modernity and postmodernity, avant-garde and radicalism stand side by side and succeed each other in the story told here, running from 1963 to 1973. Its main characters are the literature and architecture of that period, with semiotics in the background. 1963 is the year when the Italian 'economic miracle' reached its peak, and it is also the year when the literary movement Gruppo 63 was born; 1973 is the year of the founding of the architectural movement Global Tool, a dead-born attempt to bring together various radical architects into a kind of 'Supergroup'. It is also the year the first economic recession since the Second World War. Between the two dates, '68' – an eponymous number – is there to remind the culmination of the first global cultural phenomenon in history, and to set the tone for the entire decade under consideration.

I protagonisti sono la letteratura e l’architettura di quel periodo, con la semiotica sullo sfondo. Il 1963 è l’anno in cui il “miracolo economico” italiano raggiunge il culmine, ed è anche l’anno di nascita del movimento letterario Gruppo 63; il 1973 è l’anno della fondazione del movimento architettonico Global Tool, un tentativo nato morto di raggruppare vari architetti radicali in una specie di “Supergruppo”. È anche l’anno di inizio della prima recessione economica dal secondo dopoguerra. Tra le due date, il “68” – numero eponimo – è lì a ricordarci il culmine del primo fenomeno culturale globale della storia e a dare il tono all’intera decade presa in considerazione.
