The flying god Hermes was far from being a mere messenger, as he is traditionally depicted. Hermes is the divinity broking between mortals and immortals, between life and eternal sleep. He is the divine figure defining and representing the ambiguities and complexities of what is human and of what is mythological. Hermes is the protagonist, sometimes concealed, sometimes manifest, of Homer’s tales and of the history of religion seen as a poetic theatrical representation, which is both holy and tragic, and becomes epiphany of the deepest of the psyche.

Abstract
The flying god Hermes was far from being a mere messenger, as he is traditionally depicted. Hermes is the divinity broking between mortals and immortals, between life and eternal sleep. He is the divine figure defining and representing the ambiguities and complexities of what is human and of what is mythological. Hermes is the protagonist, sometimes concealed, sometimes manifest, of Homer’s tales and of the history of religion seen as a poetic theatrical representation, which is both holy and tragic, and becomes epiphany of the deepest of the psyche.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
