Abstract
The study of comets in the Renaissance is here presented from the viewpoint of the reception of ancient philosophical theories and of their interplay with astronomical observation and quantification. The ideas of prominent natural philosophers and astronomers are discussed in chronological order. Renaissance cometary theory is thus retraced through its intellectual shift from the Aristotelian meteorology to being a constitutive component of early modern cosmology.File in questo prodotto:
