Marianne Moore did not travel exstensively during her life. However, through her immense readings and the practice of visiting museums and exhibitions, she got to know many contemporary and past foreign cultures - Egyptian culture among them - whose echoes are to be found in her poetic work. The goal of my essay is to show that several of Moore’s poems containing references to ancient Egypt, and particularly those referring to animals, present a special way of dealing with the relation between culture and nature, one of her ongoing concern. Moreover, they also allow her to explore such a relation according to several perspectives which include a parallel between things created by men and natural creatures, human views on nature, human and animal behaviours, human and natural space.

Abstract
Marianne Moore did not travel exstensively during her life. However, through her immense readings and the practice of visiting museums and exhibitions, she got to know many contemporary and past foreign cultures - Egyptian culture among them - whose echoes are to be found in her poetic work. The goal of my essay is to show that several of Moore’s poems containing references to ancient Egypt, and particularly those referring to animals, present a special way of dealing with the relation between culture and nature, one of her ongoing concern. Moreover, they also allow her to explore such a relation according to several perspectives which include a parallel between things created by men and natural creatures, human views on nature, human and animal behaviours, human and natural space.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
