Even if they come from experiences conducted on different terrains (Medieval and Renaissance European literature / the tribes of Southern Africa), Mikhail Bakhtin and Victor Turner reached a very close vision of the social and cultural process. What Turner defines as liminality corresponds perfectly to what Bakhtin means with Carnival: analogous symbolic apparatuses, analogous processual and dialectical vision, a similar emphasis on the creativity of apparently disordered situations with respect to the established order, emphasis on the modalities of experience of a communitas made possible by ritual and feast, enhancement of the thresholds and borders as areas of reflection on one’s own identity values, in which an I and a You, an Ego and an Alter can be defined mutually and find each other in what Buber named the “essential Us”.

Abstract
Even if they come from experiences conducted on different terrains (Medieval and Renaissance European literature / the tribes of Southern Africa), Mikhail Bakhtin and Victor Turner reached a very close vision of the social and cultural process. What Turner defines as liminality corresponds perfectly to what Bakhtin means with Carnival: analogous symbolic apparatuses, analogous processual and dialectical vision, a similar emphasis on the creativity of apparently disordered situations with respect to the established order, emphasis on the modalities of experience of a communitas made possible by ritual and feast, enhancement of the thresholds and borders as areas of reflection on one’s own identity values, in which an I and a You, an Ego and an Alter can be defined mutually and find each other in what Buber named the “essential Us”.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
