This book contains six essays dedicated to contemporary Sephardic authors who differ in literary genre (fictional prose, non-fictional prose, poetry), style, and geographical origin, but are all united by the use of Judeo-Spanish or Ladino (in its various forms) in their works. Writing in the language of their parents, a language at risk of disappearing, is for them an act of resistance against oblivion and a quest for identity. The works analyzed here, written over a span of more than thirty years, describe a world on the brink of dissolution that, nevertheless, shines again through their pages. The authors discussed are: Clarisse Nicoïdski, Marcel Cohen, Margalit Matitiahu, Rosa Nissán, Angelina Muñiz, Matilda and Rajel Barnatán, Denise León, Juan Gelman, and Myriam Moscona.
