Alcoholism is today a social phenomenon of major importance, according to the report the Who, or 5.9% of the cases of death are due to the consequences of the use of alcohol and 5.1% of the cases of disease and injury is attributable to the excessive use of alcohol (Dalys). According to official statistics, Russia is the 5th place in the ranking of the countries for the use of alcohol, but some experts consider that Russia should be the first place for alcoholism. This paper is proposed, by reading in an historic key the various international data, a comparison of the various international data and taking particular reference to the Russian Federation, to analyze the phenomenon of alcoholism and its impact on social, with a particular focus on the bands social more weak the elderly. The 460 method used is the empirical analysis of official documents of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, as well as the official data of the various administrative districts of the Federation. To analyze the diffusion of the use and, in particular, of the abuse of alcohol among older people as an indicator of social distress, takes on a specific significance both because the phenomenon tends to be submerged and not well studied , is because, among the elderly is more common the tendency to consume alcohol in solitude, increasing the isolation, with negative consequences on psychological well-being and self-sufficiency of the individual.
