Contemporary fiction encounter the narrating of reality, demonstrating auctorial commitment and denunciation. Far from engagement in the Sartrean sense, today, writers are committed to telling the existential difficulties, changes in our lives caused by external agents, mostly economic, and the struggles for the survival of the poor. Virginie Despentes is in this movement : she explores extreme situations and drifting lives of humans in difficulty with the dynamics of society. It is « life forms » that she takes as examples and places them at the center of her novels. By taking into account the vicissitudes of "Vernon Subutex"’s hero, these new ways of the engaged writing are discussed and illustrated.
