The place-name Pusiano (Como, Lombardy) has a Proto-Indo-European etymology, *Kʷhₐu̯ŏpŭ–̊kĕslĭi̯ŏ–̊h₁i̯ăhₐnŏ-m ‘well smelling (territory), sunny in February’, through a Celtic intermediate stage *Ku̯ŏu̯kĕllĭi̯ānŏ-m > Gaulish *Pŏu̯kĕllĭi̯ānŏ-n, with Baltic cŏmpărăndă (Lithuanian kvapùs ‘fine smelling’ and keslỹs ‘February’), like other Celtic place-names and river-names in Cisalpine Gaul and Liguria (Cerusa, Trisobbio, Figoli)
