Super-resolution microscopy is leading to important new advances in biomedicine and in those elds dealing with the study of biological systems. In many ways, it is the heir to two-photon microscopy, which itself represented a big revolution over a decade ago. We have put together this book to showcase these new advances and indicated how they are enabling increased spatial resolution in subnanometer scale images of xed and living cells and tissues. is allows us to obtain new views and new information about molecules, pathways, and dynamics in biological systems. Among the key techniques in this book one can nd stimulated emission depletion (STED), structured illumination microscopy (SSIM), photoactivated localization microscopy (PALM), and stochastic optical reconstruction microscopy (STORM).
