Youth language is fleeting, complex and abounds in many regional, urban and specific varieties that are often hard to distinguish from general substandard phenomena. Notwithstanding, an impressing number of dictionaries of German youth language has been published in the last 40 years. However, as confirmed by competent linguists, none of them satisfies the criteria of a scientifically serious work of reference. This study presents a contrastive survey of the most important German, Italian, English, Russian and Finnish dictionaries of youth language and youth slang. A comparison of documentation, ascertainment and presentation methods of the recent relevant dictionaries of the juvenile speech varieties in different cultural and linguistic areas will allow some insight in the lexicographic challenges and solutions that are characteristic for youth language lexicography beyond the German point of view. Moreover, the contrasting juxtaposition of methodically quite diverging approaches might lend itself to some consideration about a future scientific dictionary project in the field of youth language lexicography for the German speaking areas.

Abstract
Moreover, the contrasting juxtaposition of methodically quite diverging approaches might lend itself to some consideration about a future scientific dictionary project in the field of youth language lexicography for the German speaking areas.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
