In this paper we present a virtual learning community training experience in the teaching of Mathematics inCourses at the University of Genoa . In particular, we present a virtual laboratory in which the students were able to experiment a cooperative teaching based on specific teaching methods and on the development of new forms of relationships that led to improving both their specific knowledge and their cognitive and meta-cognitive skills. The virtual laboratory is based on AulaWeb, an online support service for teaching at the University of Genoa, which is developed on the Moodle platform and is accessible through a whichever browser. In the work we describe the methodological lines, the results and different examples of activities carried out in virtual communities, also including interdisciplinary activities with physics and chemistry subjects. Finally, we describe how the work in the virtual communities makes it possible to improve the evaluation of the students' learnings.
