The archaeological heritage is an asset that has to be preserved for the future. A standard column has been analyzed, considering different configurations, varying both damping and the number of drums, using, as time-history applied to the base, 7 accelerograms with spectrum-compatible proprieties. Different remarks have been pointed out, on the basis of the obtained results, concerning the choice of the optimal damping that has to be considered in the analyses and the existence of very vulnerable configurations as a function of the number of drums that form the column.

Abstract

The archaeological heritage is an asset that has to be preserved for the future. In a lot of cases its behavior with the presence of dynamic actions can be assimilated to that of multiple blocks systems. Among the many constructive typologies, multidrums columns are still a research subject matter to better understand the structural behavior with the presence of seismic action. This paper presents the results of a numerical investigation carried out on multidrum columns, though the aid of a bi-dimensional distinct element program (UDEC).
