Father's figure among rights, obligations and desires: Case report La figura del padre fra diritti, doveri e desideri: Contributo casistico

Over the last ten years, parental and family roles have undergone deep transformations that have released motherhood and fatherhood from rigidly preordained schemes. This contribution proposes the examination - through the analysis of two technical consultancies regarding the assessment of the significance of the paternal role in the development of children - of the effect of gender difference in the exercise of parenting, both in the professional formation of experts and in the current socio-legal society. The examination of case histories described in this work has emphasised how social and family transformations over the last ten years and in particular the increased involvement of fathers in the educational and emotional development of children, rather than redefining the traditional gender roles within the couple and the family, may have determined a substantial non-differentiation of genders and parental roles, with a progressive neutralization of parental functions.
