Neidhart can be considered one of the most successful and influential authors of the German Middle Ages. In this study the poet’s role within the Medieval German and European literary scene at the end of the 12th and the beginning of the 13th century will be analysed. In order to do this, the socio-cultural premises of his poetic production will be taken into consideration, highlighting both his position between tradition and innovation and the similarities and/or differences with the love lyric of other, contemporary authors, discussing also the formal and thematic features of his extraordinary influence on German literary production between 1200 and 1450.
