The capabilities of an inverse scattering approach to recover the velocity profile of axially moving cylinders are further analyzed. By considering different scenarios and realistic conditions for the determination of the noise level affecting the measures, it is shown that reliable results can be obtained when the axial speed is larger than a lower bound. Such a bound is almost exclusively determined by the cross-polarization property of the illuminating antennas and of the measurement sensors. This is confirmed by using several numerical experiments, where the effects of different types of flows inside the pipe and of different measurement systems are analyzed.

Abstract

The capabilities of an inverse scattering approach to recover the velocity profile of axially moving cylinders are further analyzed. By considering different scenarios and realistic conditions for the determination of the noise level affecting the measures, it is shown that reliable results can be obtained when the axial speed is larger than a lower bound. Such a bound is almost exclusively determined by the cross-polarization property of the illuminating antennas and of the measurement sensors. This is confirmed by using several numerical experiments, where the effects of different types of flows inside the pipe and of different measurement systems are analyzed.
