The Matching Familiar Figure Task is a well-known task used to assess the ability to control impulsive responses in a visual search task (Kagan, Rosman, Day, Albert & Phillips, 1964; Cornoldi, Gardinale, Masi & Pettenò, 1996). This study presents a modified version of MFFT, the Preschool Matching Familiar Figure Task (PMMFT), that it is suitable for 3 to 5 year old children. The advantage of monitoring the quantitative and qualitative change in the development of cognitive and behavioural regulation abilities during the preschool period and consequentlyproviding surveillance for early signs of developmental difficulties is discussed.
