The introduction explains that this collection of studies has been promoted to mark the thousand-year anniversary of the foundation of the diocese of Bobbio (1014) – which has been less studied than the well-known monastery – as well as the reordering of the bishopric’s and chapter archives. The documents which can be used to reconstruct the history of the diocese, are an invaluable and extremely complex group of sources and have yet to be extracted from other, dispersed repositories, many of which have already been identified. The introduction also furnishes a few comments on the study of diocesan institutions and further suggests themes which have not been covered by the studies contained in this volume.
