The European demographic change over recent years, characterized by increasing longevity of its population, is redirecting directing studies and researches towards a rethinking of the living environment - urban space, domestic space, mobility, access to services, welfare - following a user-centered approach. Social inclusion, redesigning of existing equipments, accessibility, public and private mobility are issues where design research plays a strategic role in contributing to the definition of new scenarios, in studying and testing of products and services defined by the user's expectations and capable to cope with the extra costs of welfare in the foreseeable future.

Abstract

The European demographic change over recent years, characterized by increasing longevity of its population, is redirecting directing studies and researches towards a rethinking of the living environment - urban space, domestic space, mobility, access to services, welfare - following a user-centered approach.
