The transmission, whether descriptive or prescriptive, of the spelling standard by the Royal Spanish Academy (RAE) is often a topic for debate among both linguists and Spanish speakers. In this paper, we will provide and analyse data obtained from an intertextual analysis of the "Ortografía de la lengua española" (RAE and ASALE 2010) as well as data from an intertextual comparison between this work, on the one hand, and the 1999 edition and the 2012 edition (entitled "Básica"), on the other hand. We aim to show whether, in general, there have been any intentional changes in the Academy’s communicative discourse concerning how the standard is transmitted.
