Abstract. For many years the cognitive and affective processes which mediate interpersonal functions have been explored independently by psychoanalytic object relations theory and by social cognition research, and in recent years attempts to integrate these two approaches have been developed. Westen and collaborators’s Social Cognition and Object Relations Scale represents an attempt to integrate the multidimensional assessment of social cognition and object relations through qualitative and quantitative analysis of TAT stories. This work aims to investigate the operational representations of the stories told to TAT tables in adults with a history of conflicting separation compared to individuals with a stable conjugal relationship. In this work is suggested that, through a narrative material, can be more easily get to know the deepest core of the participant’s personality and better understand the emotional coloring accompanying his relational experiences. Results are presented and made remarks on individual vulnerability factors that affect the success or failure of a satisfactory marital relationship.
