The article deals with the analysis of the political thought of Noam Chomsky from the perspective of the relation between the political power and the truth. Chomsky in his pivotal work entitled Manufacturing consent shows as the propaganda can act on the truth in order to compel it and to make it as useful as possible to the holder of the political power. The article analyzes the sources – authors and works – that are at the roots of the Chomsky’s idea of politics, starting from Aristotle, Hume, Rousseau, von Humboldt, Madison and Tocqueville till to the more recent authors of the anarchic and socialist-libertarian area. In closing the article focuses on the solutions which Chomsky suggests in order to change a political system which is, in his opinion, unfit to make the men able to live freely.
