The paper is the contribution of the author, as invited guest , to the International Colloquium on "The notion of painter architect in Italy and South west Low Countries, organized by the University of Antwerp and the Rubensiaunm and it deals with the painted facades in Genoa. The contribution also propose new possible interpretations, not strictly disciplinary, for an artistic, cultural and architectural heritage of exceptional value. In fact, it can still reserve significant opportunities for research and interpretation on the different involved levels: historiographical, artistic, architectural, economic and productive, of “material culture”, of social and political customs. Finally the paper faces the difficult problem of the conservation of these "frescoes" for the future.
