Results: in swimmers molar symmetry with higher frequency (P=0.04), together with a greater number of Class I subjects were found; overjet showed mainly normal values, arch dimensions were significantly wider (+ 10% in the upper arch, chi2 <0.001), severe crowding (chi2 <0.001) and oral habits (chi2 <0.001) were significantly less frequent. Conclusions: our findings seem to support that competitive swimming exert a favorable effect on dental arch development
