The article is focused on the deep link, from the perspective of the political thought, between Erasmus of Rotterdam and Plutarch of Chaeronea. In the last years of the first decade of the XVI century, Erasmus was involved, with other scholars, by Aldo Manuzio in working on the first Greek edition of Plutarch's Moralia that would be published in 1509. This period spent in studying these Plutarchean texts influenced the following political thought of Erasmus. The Maxime cum principibus philosopho esse disserendum, the Ad principem ineruditum and the Praecepta gerendae rei publicae became sources of the Institutio principis Christiani. Abstract

In the article I highlight the elements of Plutarch's political thought used by Erasmus in order to support his political ideas.
