We present the organization of a database aimed to collect information about people affected by various types of dementia. In this project the data are memorized in order to study the correlation between the blood levels of homocysteine and the type, gravity and progression of dementia. The main aims of the project are the following: give the Department of Neurology of Sestri Ponente Hospital, which is outside of the university environment, the possibility of doing research more easily using the actual concept of data interoperability; introduce the HL7 standardization in the daily routine of a general hospital to make communication easier among different departments of different hospitals, this can be particularly significant in a case like the present one in which more severely affected people can decide to move towards a more specialized institution.
