The theme of 'Quality’ as the central pivot to pedagogical culture over these past thirty years.The paper introduces the theme of quality from the broadest perspective of the quality of life as laid down from the 1980s on and destined to command far-reaching percussions on pertinent themes. The article, indeed, adopts an in-depth approach to the theme of the quality of a child's life, drawing the spotlight of socio-psycho-pedagogical research from International Documents and European Recommendations of the 1980/90s. It is in the very European context that a privileged niche was formed for the observation and reflection on educational quality. Against a background - for some fundamental aspects - of an analysis of constantly shifting and uncertain conditions of life, O. Rossi Cassottana underlines the primary demand for veritable evaluation of the level of educational achievement. The final paragraph is Cesare Scurati's contribution to a study of educational quality in the school environment.
