Abstract (english): A 16th-century pamphlet (Berlin, Staatsbibliothek, Yf 8061R) preserves two Middle Low German Songs. The first, Van Dirick van dem Berne, a song of which other versions are available, has been the subject of much study in the context of the history and development of the heroic tradition about Theodoric the Great. The second, Van Juncker Baltzer, which is only known through this pamphlet, has so far attracted no attention, with the exception of a study by Hilkert Weddige (1995). The paper considers the historical and literary context of the two songs from the perspective of their transmission. It addresses the question whether the pamphlet containing such apparently different poems is actually the product of a precise program with an intended effect. This turns out to be the case: the printer offers concrete indications to his intended readership. The two songs printed together are not only connected to each other by the thematic complex „Persecution by the Uncle, Exile and Attempted Recovery“, but the happy ending of the first, typical of the genre of the heroic popular ballad, can be read as a positive model for the second, which is about historical events and is open-ended, suggesting that through concrete future actions it will be possible to bring about a positive conclusion.
