The Italian Ministry of University and Research has funded a research project (FIRB) aimed at the development of tools for the planning of mobile phone networks in urban environment. In order to achieve the result, several tasks have been carried out, among them: the development of more accurate methods for the computation of the electromagnetic field both in LOS and NLOS situation, the development of automatic optimization procedures, the development of better models of the materials used for buildings. An overview of results is here presented.
