Relationships between the company’s value creation and the development of links between a company and its territory are much stronger than you might think at first sight. In recent times, if shareholders consider themselves dissatisfied with the value created by their company, the link with the local territory may be less, by transferring the production in other geographical contexts that can ensure better development conditions. So the close link between business growth and growth of the local area requires established relationships between companies and local stakeholders in order to constantly seek balanced solutions that ensure good future prospects for all. This chapter, which is part of a wider research, focuses on the relationship, in the 2006-2009 years, between a selected sample of companies operating in the Liguria Region and their stakeholders namely "actors of the competitive system" (customers, competitors, suppliers) and "social actors" (human resources, shareholders, public administrations and communities). With regard to the “actors of the competitive system”, in the period 2006-2009, most companies assign a marginal importance to relations with customers, competitors and suppliers in the local area, highlighting a significant projection to foreign markets. The most significant elements concerning the relation with the competitive system appear to be the improvement of quality (in products and services offered to customers, but also in materials and components required to suppliers) and the tendency to develop with suppliers and/or clients long term relationships aimed at product innovation. This underlines the importance attached by companies to the interrelationships with customers and suppliers, although with limited impact on the economy of Liguria Region. With regard to “social actors”, in order to highlight the value produced and distributed, it was decided to examine the allocation of value added net. In the period 2006-2009, the distribution of value added net has privileged human resources, while it seems that the greatest burden of economic crisis has been sustained, in terms of added value obtained, by public administrations and shareholders. In short, the survey has highlighted that local companies have created value in the period taken into consideration, but, in general, they appear to be localized in the Liguria Region for a "historical reason", descended from the original decision of the entrepreneur or the founding members, rather than the presence of policies and support structures, resources and skills to be a defensible competitive advantage. Therefore, the need to avoid the transfer of existing Ligurian companies in other parts of the country or abroad, but also the need to attract new investments should be incentives (for public administrations, trade associations, banks, etc.) to improve the contextual conditions in order to facilitate the economic development of the territory.
