Abstract

On the origins of Europe the ancient sources agree in placing a voyage, the voyage from East to West of Europe, Phoenician princess. The work compares three literary texts, that of Moschos, to that of Horace and Ovid, addressing differently crossing Europe. Europe in Moschos is the first ancient text in wich the geographical name of Europe is justified by the myth and that justification is by means of the deam, the text of Horace Carm. III 27 is a real propempticon for Galatea, in Ovid Fast. V that for the voyage to Europe is known in the figurative image. The description of the voyage back then in Luciano, Achille Tazio and Nonnus. The great success of this aspect of the myth comes to the “Viaggio di Europa” by Massimo Bontempelli in wich all elementas of the previous tradition converge.
