Abstract

The present paper deals with the problem of estimating vessel performance during early phase of their development by proposing an innovative methodology. The approach involves the correlation of historical data for getting reference data to be used with hypotheses on new systems by reverse engineering techniques based on Genetic Algorithms, for estimating the new ship component characteristics. The simulator is used dynamically during this process and for evaluating new scenarios in term of cost and benefits of different design solutions, operative modes or general policies.
