This contribution has the purpose to focus on three different aspects relative to the European identity. Firstly, we will try to consider the construction of the European identity in light of the process of individualization regarding the individual social actor in the advanced industrial societies. Secondly, we will present some data coming from different sources in order to define the “ground” on which the growing European identity is establishing itself: particular attention will be given to new generations as they show the greater favour to the European project and because they consent to do hypothesis on European identity’s future. Lastly, we will suggest some coordinates for a research that can investigate the relationship between young people and Europe.

Abstract

This contribution has the purpose to focus on three different aspects relative to the European identity. Firstly, we will try to consider the construction of the European identity in light of the process of individualization regarding the individual social actor in the advanced industrial societies. Secondly, we will present some data coming from different sources in order to define the “ground” on which the growing European identity is establishing itself: particular attention will be given to new generations as they show the greater favour to the European project and because they consent to do hypothesis on European identity’s future. Lastly, we will suggest some coordinates for a research that can investigate the relationship between young people and Europe.
