This paper analyzes why Wittgenstein makes many explicit comparisons between his point of view and Relativity Theory, through different phases of his production (verificationistic phase, "grammatical" phase, "rule following" phase, and last epistemological remarks on On Certainty). I claim that the influence of Einstein on Wittgenstein is deeper than normally believed it to be, and is is not only linked to the verificationistic period (as it happens with Reichenbach and other members of the Vienna Circle). I rely on exegetical evidences from the Nachlass and on theoretical arguments, to give an assessment of a philosopher who probably considered the relation of his philosophy to Relativity Theory in analogy with the relation of Kant's philosophy to Newtonian classical theory.
