The article analyses a case of (not declared) literary intertextuality. In one of the comedies of Goldoni a comic sally is not result of poetic imagination: the poet clearly draws inspiration from an account in a work of Lucian, in which it is narrated that Sulla brought to Rome, among several books of great value, a copy of Thucydides’ History, transcribed by Demosthenes’ own hand.
