Abstract

Split liver transplant technique was developed to improve the pediatric organ supply without affecting the adult donor pool. Moreover the introduction of the in situ split liver (ISSL) allowed to improve the quality of the liver grafts. The shortage of liver grafts for adult patients has urged to extend this technique to a full adult usage. Arterial reconstruction and related complications can be a major factor in morbidity and mortality after orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT) as they may cause graft failure, sepsis and biliary tract complications. Moreover, split liver transplantation is challenging, both at splitting time and at implantation time.
