The essay proposes an examination of the construction history of the so-called Palazzetto criminale of the Republic of Genoa, starting from its origins in the Middle Ages as the house of the Doria family – certainly used from around the middle of the 14th century as the temporary seat of the Podestà – up to the loss of its residential, judicial and prison functions at the begin- ning of the 19th century, when the palazzo became the seat of the Archives of the Kingdom of Savoy. The pivotal moment in this affair occurred at the end of the 16th century, when the palace was enlarged by expanding on the adjacent property of the Canons of San Lorenzo and took on the conformation that we still recognise today. Careful scrutiny of the sources already known and further archive research have enabled numerous clarifications and some minor discoveries, which have also been confirmed by the investigations conducted on the building with a view to its recovery, which are briefly mentioned here.

Abstract
Careful scrutiny of the sources already known and further archive research have enabled numerous clarifications and some minor discoveries, which have also been confirmed by the investigations conducted on the building with a view to its recovery, which are briefly mentioned here.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
