In this article, the author proposes a legal feminist (counter)trajectory for “animal liberation” based on some insights that have been neglected in the mainstream debate, which is dominated by masculine geneaologies and can be traced back to the Western godmothers of ecofeminism, radical feminism, and antiableism feminism. Specifically, it attempts to show how a strand of critical gender studies that explores the links between oppressive ‘isms’ (such as sexism, racism, classism, ableism, naturism, and speciesism) and liberating ‘isms’ (such as feminism and animalism) tries to combine the need – which drove the introduction of intersectionality – to keep struggles against discrimination separate with the need to weld them into a perspective of global emancipation.
