In the essay Proposals for an International Restoration Charter, Roberto Pane and Piero Gazzola dwell at length and critically on the passages that deal with the theme of the recognizability of the intervention in the Italian Charter of 1932, focusing on the position that will be made explicit in the articles 9-13 of the Venice Charter. The concept of distinguishability, which in Italy already boasted a long tradition is criticized by Pane and Gazzola who rejects this rigidity, considering the post-war experiences, declaring that even a traditional material if superficially processed in a different way can satisfy the distinguishability requirements. Distinguishability, therefore, according to the two scholars, must be interpreted as a reconciliation of the needs of extreme rigor of which scholars, archaeologists and historians are the bearers, and those of fruition by man in his various facets, hence the title of the Conference: The monument for the man.
