Abstract

The study focuses on the semantics of (ge)var compounds in MHG, in which the first member is an emotion denomination. Within the framework of the analysis, which covers chronology as well as co-occurrences and verse positions, the collected data were analyzed both quantitatively and qualitatively: On this basis, it can be assumed that only in the phase 1180-1250, i.e. in the heyday of courtly literature, the (ge)var composites reflect a conceptualisation that assumes an intertwining of emotions and their somatic manifestations showing through colour changes.
