Our work analyses the concept of a Christian natural theology, as articulated by Alister McGrath, and interprets it as a contemporary ramification of the broader issue of the meaning and possibility of a Christian philosophy. We thus investigate the twentieth-century debate over Christian philosophy, recalling the contribution of Étienne Gilson and Jacques Maritain, and exploring in detail the position of the neoscholastic philosophers Fernand Van Steenberghen and Amato Masnovo, as well as those of other contemporary philosophers that belong to their intellectual tradition. In conclusion, we offer some neoscholastic/neoclassical philosophical reflections on the meaning and value of a Christian philosophy as well as on McGrath’s proposal.
