The action of the cut, as break, and as frame, and as mode of momentary capture, in both cinema and architecture, creates interstitial zones that demand of us a critical and creative re-interrogation of our local environment- worlds. The ethos of this approach, we argue, can be aligned with feminist practices re- emerging in architecture, specifically through the concept-tool of the feminist design power tool. Power here is less the power over another, than a capacity to act in a world in ethical relation to others. Any cut must by necessity be a selective cut, a choice must be made and this brings in the question of both an immanent ethics, and the capacity for immanent critique: how do we make the best of the choices we make?
